Song Analysis – Avicii – Hey Brother

Rhythm is SOOOO important when it comes to songwriting. Learning that backbeat and learning how to count to 4 is the most fundamental and important a musician needs to learn. All of pop music follows that 4/4 pulse. Take this Avicii and start counting 1 2 3 4.

Another important thing is to listen to that accentuated wake me UP when its all O-ver. Not only is it important to count 4/4 but to understand that songwriters try very hard to subconsciously let you know where that 1 beat is.

A lot of EDM and dance music in general has the kickdrum 4/4. The snare is added in the hook to add that variation.

The theme of the song is of optimism. The singer is saying “Hey no matter what happens Im here for you homie”.

So yes biggest take away from this, learn to count to 4.

“There’s an endless road to rediscover”

and just to motivate you even more

I attribute my success to this: I never gave or took any excuse. –Florence Nightingale
